Complete Data

Example: In a factory process, 100 pieces have been chosen randomly of a batch and the number of defects found in each piece is in the following table. The batch is accepted if the defect rate is up to 4 defects per piece. With this information, at a 5% significance level, the batch must be approved or reproved?

To use the tool Rate Tests, the user must follow these steps:

1. Access the menu:

Action $ \blacktriangleright $ Basic Statistics $ \blacktriangleright $ Rate $ \blacktriangleright $ Rate Tests

2. The following window will appear;

3. In the field Data Set we select between the options Complete Data or Summarized Data. In this case, we have all the data set so, we select the option Complete Data;

4. In Complete Data, we select the column (table or row) that contains the data. These data must be numerical;

5. In the field Alternative Hypothesis we select among the options Not equal, Lower than, or Greater than. As in this example we are interested in test if the mean rate is greater than 4, we select the option Greater than;

6. In the field Null Hypothesis we type the null hypothesis. In this example the null hypothesis is 4;

7. In the field Confidence Level, we type the confidence level. In this example, we use a confidence level of 0.95 (95%)

8. In Show Results, we select between the options Current Cell or New Sheet. We suggest the option New Sheet, because Action does not have the undo command;

REMARK: When choosing the option Current Cell the results will be printed from the cell where the cursor is. In this case, the user must put the cursor in an appropriate position previously (before step 1).

9. To finish, click OK.

Results and Interpretation

Once the process is finished, the following results will be shown:

As the p-value is equal to 0.1711 > 0.05, we do not reject the null hypothesis. So , we do not have evideces to reprove the batch.
